Lee, Walch appointed to Jefferson County Health and Human Relations Commission

Hanover College administrators Dewain Lee and D.J. Walch have been appointed members of the inaugural Jefferson County (Ind.) Health and Human Relations Commission (HHRC). The commission was officially created in May 2022 and formally announced in early February.

HHRC, which reports to the county commissioners, strives to promote public health, welfare, security, positive human relations, respect and integrity of every individual. The board will work to identify issues and concerns in the county that should be investigated or reviewed. The commission will also create a notification system for community members to report issues or concerns.

Lee has served as the College’s vice president for student life and dean of students since 2016. Walch, director of co-curricular involvement in the Office of Student Life, has been a member of Hanover’s staff since 2017. Each will serve a two-year term on the nine-member commission.

To qualify for consideration, board members must work in areas that are engaged in promoting health and/or anti-discrimination in the community and live within the county.

Lee and Walch now join Katy Hadley as Hanover-related human rights commission members in the local area. Hadley, professor of sociology, has served on the City of Madison Human Relations Commission since an appointment by former mayor Damon Welch in 2019.

The city’s commission also works to promote diversity and civility and hear complaints of potential discrimination.
