Martin sets HCAC record to lead Hanover in runner-up finish at HCAC Championship

The Hanover women’s track and field team turned in a second place mark as part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships with 127.5 points. The Blue and Red turned in a dominate performance paced by senior Zaleeya Martin (Shelbyville, Ind.) and an HCAC record performance.

Martin reset the 60-meter dash standard in the HCAC winning the event with a conference record mark of 7.73 seconds. The senior also turned in a fourth place mark in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.27 seconds.

In the pole vault, junior Ally McGuire (Guilford, Ind.) garnered First Team All-HCAC honors as she claimed the top spot in the pole vault with a Championship winning vault of 2.55 meters. Teammate, junior Aliza Boles (Lexington, Ind.) garnered Second Team accolades in the event.

In the shot put, sophomore Jessie Stenger (Brookville, Ind.) captured a runner-up finish earning All-HCAC honors with a distance of 13.15 meters. The toss is a new Hanover school record. Teammate, senior Jessica Beckman (Glenwood, Ind.) finished fourth in the event with a throw of 13.00 meters, ranking her second among the Hanover all-time top 10.

Junior Amberleigh Sorensen (Yorktown, Ind.) displayed success in the one mile claiming Second Team honors with a runner-up mark in a time of 5:29.43. Sophomore Hanna Whitney (Huntington, Ind.) finished sixth in the event with a time of 5:44.10.

Sorensen also took the top spot in the 800-meter run winning the race with a time of 2:25.42, earning First Team All-HCAC honors.

The 4×400-meter relay team of junior Natalie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.), Sorensen, sophomore Emma Litzelman (Plainfield, Ind.), and Martin took third in the event with a time of 4:28.40, earning all-HCAC accolades.

Freshman Sarah Jones (Greencastle, Ind.) claimed Honorable Mention honors in the 5,000-meter run taking third in a time of 19:56.87. Freshman Callie Swegman (Columbus, Ind.) finished fourth in the event in a time of 20:14.89 while junior Lauren Todd (Greenwood, Ind.) took seventh with a time of 20:34.68.

Junior Lili Seals (Paoli, Ind.) turned in a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 9.04 meters.

The Hanover distance medley team of freshman Adair Dooley (Crestview Hills, Ky.), junior Kelli Brock (Mooresville, Ind.), freshman Elyse Wilson (Mechanicsburg, Ohio) and junior Elizabeth Wahlman (Butlerville, Ind.) garnered Honorable Mention honors with a third place finish in a time of 14:25.33.
