Walnut Street Construction Update

Walnut Street Construction Update

Most businesses on Walnut Street are still open.  Sidewalks are open but have narrowed in size a bit for this phase.

You can still use parking lot behind Miller's Tavern, parking on Madison Avenue, City Police parking lot as well as limited spots in front of City Hall.

From Kevin Daeger, HWC Engineering:

Phase 1

The contractor has reached completion of storm and sanitary sewer installation and has completed installation of the water main for

Phase 1.

Testing will be performed next week to ensure the new water main is free of contaminants and then water services will be connected to the new main as it goes into use. During next week, pedestrians can expect to see the roadway being fully excavated to subbase elevation in order to install subgrade treatment.

When the road is completely excavated, the contractor will then set the lids on previously installed storm structures and then curb, and gutter will be installed throughout Phase 1.

After curb and gutter installations are completed, the contractor will then begin to remove the remaining sidewalks and pour them back day after day.

This work is expected to begin near Madison Avenue and will progress to the West as weather allows.

Pedestrian traffic is still available throughout the downtown area and is delineated with orange snow fence.

Phase 8

Phase 8 is nearing the halfway point of completion. The South side of Buckeye Street has newly installed curb and gutter along with adjacent sidewalk and concrete driveway approaches.

It is anticipated that the South section will be completed near the end of next week and work will progress to the North side of Buckeye Street.

Pedestrians can still currently use the North sidewalk to travel to Vernon Street and can utilize the new South sidewalk when the project switches sides.

North Vernon CCMG Projects

Dave O’Mara Contractor has received Notice to Proceed on North Vernon’s current CCMG project.

This work includes sidewalk, curb and gutter, and asphalt milling/resurfacing on Washington Steet, Clay Street, Madison Avenue, Oak Street, and Chestnut Street.

This work is scheduled to begin near the beginning of June pending weather and crew availability.

Please be on the lookout in these areas for barricades, construction barrels, and changing driving conditions.

Thank you for your continued patience.
