Hanover celebrates Senior Night in contest against MSJ

The Hanover men's basketball team (16-9 overall, 12-6 HCAC) celebrated senior night as part of their season finale with Mt. St. Joseph, dropping the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest 74-66.

Prior to tip-off, the Panthers celebrated seniors Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) and Jack Wininger (Elnora, Ind.) and their many contributions to the Hanover men's basketball program.

Houston paced the Panthers with a team-best 20 points.

After some early shooting woes, the Panthers found themselves on the wrong side of an 8-0 deficit. However, Hanover remained poise and slowly clawed their way back into the contest using a 6-0 run capped by a sophomore Kyle Crim (Manilla, Ind.) layup to pull HC within 21-16 at the 9:47 mark.

The Panther offense continued to battle, this time with sophomore Michael Donoho (Rockport, Ind.) pacing the surge. Houston looked to capitalize on the momentum as he navigated the Lion defense cutting the difference to 26-22. But the Mount was able to push the lead to as many as 36-23 when Houston once again stepped up. The senior cut the deficit to 36-29 at the break.

The second half saw the Lions continue to fire on all cylinders as they extended the lead to double digits at the 16:16 mark, 43-33. But the Panthers refused to be tamed using a 9-0 run capped by a sophomore Coleman Sater (Elletsville, Ind.) runner in the lane to pull within 43-42.

With just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest, junior Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) stepped up big for the Blue and Red hitting a corner three-pointer. But Mount St. Joseph battled in the paint stringing together an 8-0 run that saw them reclaim the 68-61 advantage with just 1:54 remaining.

The veteran, Ty Houston looked to flip the script in favor of the Blue and Red but ultimately fell unsuccessful as the Lions were able to hold on for the HCAC win.

Hanover returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 19 when they open play as part of the HCAC Tournament quarterfinals welcoming no. 6 seed Franklin. Tip is set for 4:00 PM.
